Can wordpress be edited remotely via an api or sdk?

    I have a project that requires me NOT to use the existing wordpress admin area to update specific content. Is it possible to list/edit content for my wordpress site from an external website admin area via a wordpress api or sdk, and if so what would you suggest i use?
