About 2 years ago we started making the move to transition our Magento 1 site across to Magento 2, and unfortunately have had a terrible experience with a development agency who have finally given up on the project. That gives us a real problem as we might find ourselves with a site which simply doesn’t transact this Christmas.

So, we’ve got 6-8 weeks to get a replacement site live, and we’re very much considering WordPress and Woocommerce, but we’re nervous as to whether Woocommerce can handle our transaction volume at Christmas time. At our peak in 2019, we had an average of 700 transactions per day, with a peak of 1,400 transactions per day on the 16th of December. We had an average 7,500 sessions per day and a peak of 11,500 sessions during the same period. Page views averaged 36,000 per day with a peak of 61,000, also during the same period.

Can Woocommerce handle that scale of business? In a conversation today with a dev, he explained that Woocommerce can’t scale – essentially because at its heart, it’s still a blog – each sale is a ‘post’. That might be an over-simplification, but I think I understand what he’s saying.

    Is he right?!
