Support » Requests and Feedback » Can we open “Reference Links” added in Forum Reply Editor to open in New Tab

    Hello Team,

It seems whenever I add any reference links while responding to Forums when clicked, it leaves the Forum and takes a user to that specific link.

Instead, can we have an option such that by default the links get open up in New Tab?

I know we do have an option in Editor which says “link” which have an option if you wish to open the link in new tab, but if we have that by default it will be much helpful.

So the person who clicks on links doesn’t leave the Support Forum page.

This is just a Suggestion/Feedback I thought which can help in making the Forums better.

    Let me know your thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Kartik

I’ve not known this to be a big enough issue to just right click and open in a new tab. What’s the problem you’re facing?

    Hello Andrew,

I am not facing any problem. As mentioned this is just a suggestion.

By default when we add a link to Editor it does not open in new Tab, either we need to copy the link and open in new Tab or right click and open in new tab.

So I thought if we can make it default it can make better user experience.

Just wants to know an opinion of daily forum users.

So if you feel this is not a valid query/suggestion, let me know I will mark it as Resolved.

    Thanks.

I don’t mean to make your suggestion invalid, but I mean to explore the scenario that is going to be improved, because it would be interesting to know if that is poor UX before implementing it

I agree, links should open in new tab.

No. We will not be making links on this forum open in a new tab. Opening in a new tab is bad for accessibility and is an anti-pattern.

Links should open in the same window, period.

I agree, links should open in the same window!
