@andreasbln,
It’s being done automatically. If a user can set own topic private then he/she can see own topic without any other permissions. Don’t use the “Can view private topic” permission, this is only for admins and moderators.
In current version, there is a bug related to the private topics. Please read this support topic: https://wpforo.com/community/general-forums-bug-reports/cannot-see-replies-in-own-private-topic-issue-1-6-0-1-6-1/#post-25347
This works but I want the user to be able to view private topics with “Standard access”.
So I want to decide for my forum, which user group can see private topics.
I only have two groups, guests and registered users and there are issues that users only want to discuss with registered users. Without that I have to intervene as an administrator.
Please never use the Guest usergeoup for logged in users. Guests are not able to set private topics and they are not able to view private topics. The Registered usergroup users have Standard Access and this access allow them to set own topics private and see own topic posts.
Also wpForo allows you to create Private Forums not only Private Topics. Private Forums can be created by setting No Access to certain Usergroup.

Users are only able to see own private topic posts not others. So the Standard Forum Access allow them without any issue, they should not be admin. Just fix the bug mentioned above and it’ll work fine.
