We’re looking for a Facebook feed plugin that allows us to integrate one on a website without needing the client’s API key.

We make webites for our clients and getting access to their Facebook page is often impossible.

    Thank you for any feedback!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hey Vincent,

Yes it can work without needing the client’s API key.

In order to access Facebook’s API to retrieve data Facebook requires a valid Access Token to be used. The Facebook login button in our plugin makes getting an Access Token easy. The only data it requests is the name of the person (which is required by Facebook) and a list of the Facebook pages that person manages. This then allows the plugin to request an Access Token for one of those pages which you can use in the plugin’s settings to access the Facebook API.

You could log into your own Facebook account and use the access token/API key for your account and using that instead in the plugin settings. Your key will still allow the plugin to obtain feed data for the client’s Page account (except for Events which requires a different access token anyway).

So, you can use a token from any Facebook page to access the API and get posts from any other public Facebook page. Simply get one Access Token for one Facebook page and use it across all plugin installations on the websites using the plugin.

If you don’t want to use your own Facebook account’s access token then you could…

    1) Create a new fake Facebook account, create a Facebook page with that user, and then use the button in our plugin to obtain an Access Token for that user.

To test this further you can set up a plugin installation and use the API key /access token from your account and then set up a feed to display data from your client. You will see that the data from your client’s timeline will appear in the feed. Our interactive demo here is set up that way for your use.

Thank you for the follow-up! It worked like a charm. I’ll ask another question in a different thread to avoid confusion.
