Can this plugin be used if “featured images” was never used?

    I’ve never setup featured images. So when I share post online the first image of the post is automatically used as the featured image. Except for RSS. No images there.

    Does this plugin depend on “featured image” being set?

    If your feed is set to excerpts only, or if you have the “Featured Image” setting checked, then the plugin will use the featured image if it has been set. If no featured image has been set, then the plugin will look for the first “attached” image, meaning the first image uploaded to the post.

    It sounds like this is probably how your theme is set up as well.
