 * I currently have a website with a blog, but I’m using forum software to create
   the blog by piping topics from one of the forum categories to the front page.
   Needless to say, this is very clunky, and I’d like to switch to purpose-built
   blog software.
 * The only problem is, I want to integrate my blog into my existing site and not
   have side menus and calenders that I can’t remove. If I switch to WordPress,
   do I get to pick what gets included on my front page, or am I stuck with how
   it looks?
 * Also, can I install WordPress in a subdirectory, or does it need to be on the
   web root?
 * Thanks

 * _If I switch to WordPress, do I get to pick what gets included on my front page,
   or am I stuck with how it looks?_
 * Sure. Your theme controls that and you control your theme.
 * _Also, can I install WordPress in a subdirectory, or does it need to be on the
   web root?_
 * Either is fine. And check the codex (codex.wordpress.org) for further info about
   customizing home pages and such (integration).

 * The appearance of your front page is very customizable based on the theme you
   choose to use. You could create your own theme which strips out all the sidebar
   stuff if you don’t want it.
 * WordPress can be installed anywhere, it has no requirements as far as locations
   are concerned.
 * If you want to continue your method of using the forum software as a commenting
   system instead of WordPress, you can do that. But I would suggest going the other
   way.
 * That is, pipe your posts from WP to the forum as a new topic and allow discussion
   there.
 * Regards

 * Thanks for the replies. I’m eager to ditch the whole forum thing because it’s
   like using a stick of dynamite to dig a hole for a plant.
 * Downloaded WordPress and looking forward to setting it up.

 * Hi, I’m very much in my WP learning curve here and this comment caught my eye.
   What do you mean by “pipe your posts?” Is there a way to have a blog post show
   up in your forum as a new topic for discussion there? I am eventually looking
   to integrate Invision Power Board and WordPress for a site in just such a manner.
 * My apologies for highjacking the thread 🙂 but hopefully this question might
   be useful to the thread author as well.
 * Thank you,
 * Joan
