Support » Fixing WordPress » Can someone offer a fix for Oblique type instead of Italic type?

  • I’m using WordPress 3.3, and started with it only a week or so ago, so I’m pretty green. I’ve figured out most things, but I am stymied by this problem: I would like type on my site to be Italic from time to time (for emphasised speech, but more importantly for book titles, names of ships and magazines and movies, and so on) but try as I may, using <i> or tags, the only kind of type I get on my screen is oblique. That is, plain roman face slanted a bit to the right. Now oblique is not italic. The fonts I have seen this occur with are the webfonts Fournier New BP and Droid Sans, and good old Georgia.

Is there a simple way to obtain true italic? Plain old XHTML manages this without fuss.

Is there a chance that future versions of WordPress might allow this?

    Thanks,

    John Tranter

  • I think it’s more likely to be a theme related issue than a WordPress issue. WordPress itself doesn’t apply any default style your site. It’s all controlled by the style sheet(s) in the active theme.

Thanks, Clayton. I’ll look into the settings for the theme.
