Can somebody clue me in on how to do multiple galleries on a single page?

Please forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere. I’ve been searching but not finding answers.

I’m building a few pages that have brief galleries of images interspersed with text. Kinda like this:

<image> <image> <image>

I’m having a devil of a time getting a gallery with just *some* of the images from the media library to appear at any of the given points. It seems that, whatever I try, I wind up with all the images from the gallery whether I like it or not. Well, I don’t like it and that’s not what I need.

Anybody have a better approach and/or other ideas? I admit I’m new to WordPress but not at all to computers. Thanks!
