• I just upgraded 3 sites to WP 4.6 and now I can not update any plugins on these sites.

I get an error message that says “Update Failed: Not Found”.

I did deactivate 1 plugin and then activate it again, but it still gives the error when trying to update.

  • Hello, myancey, & welcome to the WordPress support forum.

You don’t provide us w/any site url’s, which is sometimes helpful. You also don’t tell us whether you’re on a shared, VPS, or dedicated hosting plan, which can also be helpful in the event permissions might be problematic. Having said all that, though, the most common cause for issues after updating is that some of the files failed to download, in which case a reinstall fixes everything. That might be your first course of action.

If a reinstall does not work, then please try switching to a default theme & see if that helps. Also, please try renaming your plugins folder by appending a 1 or a .old to it & see if that eliminates the problem. If it does, then rename the plugins folder back but rename all folders inside of it except for one (probably Akismet) & try to update/install a plugin. Keep renaming the plugins back 1 by 1, trying to install a plugin each time until you cant, in which case you’ve just found the plugin causing the problem.

Please let us know whether or not that helped.

3 of my sites were affected by this.

I am on a shared hosting.

    1 domain is fatcrushers.com

Well, as I said–try reinstalling WordPress first. I don’t know if your other sites use a child theme, but this 1 definitively does, so that, too, may be causing problems. Please try switching to a default theme temporarily, to see if that makes any difference. Then please try doing as I instructed regarding plugins, & let’s see where we find ourselves.

I think you need updated all your plugins before you update WordPess and reinstall core WordPress. I hope this helps for you.

I had exactly the same problem. I ended up deleting/reinstalling the plugins. So far I’ve had to reinstall SEO All in One Pack, Jetpack and Akismet. Today I had the problem with WP Ultimate Recipe. Fortunately all my settings and data were saved and I didn’t have to reconfigure anything or re-type the recipes. Hope this helps.

Latest: while it works to uninstall/reinstall, I have to do it each time there is an update for a plugin. I’ve reinstalled a couple of plugins twice now. Still need a fix for this.

ktolliver, please start your own topic as per the guidelines at:

Your server, WordPress configuration, as well as plugins & themes are likely different from the person who started this topic. It would be appreciated if, when you do so, you would provide your site url, the type of hosting you’re using, i.e., shared, VPS, etc, as well as the plugins you’re running.

The advice I provided to the original topic starter is likely applicable to you as well, but, here again, without additional information, it’s pretty hard to know.

    Thanks for your cooperation.
