Support » Plugin: Sunshine Photo Cart » Can not select FTP folder

I am currently redoing website on my local and am testing out uploading by FTP.

I have a folder of images within the “wp-content/uploads/sunshine”.
On creating a new gallery, under FTP Images Folder the drop down box has no selection.

I also went to test it online, but again, there are no selections within the drop down box

Turned off all plugins, went to default theme and it worked. Turned on custom theme, then each plugin one at a time.

    It still worked.

Am testing out various things. So I created a gallery and selected the ftp. All worked well – it created a new folder, copied over the original photos and also created other size. So far so good.

I then deleted that gallery. I have my settings to delete photos and ftp folder. It duly did this correctly, so far so good.

I then uploaded a new folder to the sunshine folder.
    Created a new gallery.
    Selected parent gallery
Went to select FTP folder – nothing there to select.

I went back to default theme and turned off all other plugins. But still will not show ftp folders

The uploaded folder is definitely in the correct place but it simply can’t see it!

Do you have .jpg images? If Sunshine does not find any .jpg images in the folder it does not make it available to select.

Yes, folder is full of .jpg images

OK, so I have been trying again. Testing by deactivating and reactivating plugins yet again. This time it’s working again! Tested a few more times deactivating and reactivating. So far it’s still working. No idea why but will now carry on developing and keep an eye on it.

    Nope – not working again!

Brand new install – default WP theme and no plugins, only Sunshine.

I created a gallery before adding a folder of .jpgs to the sunshine folder and refreshed the draft – no folders to select

Wondered if you had to add the folder BEFORE creating gallery, so tried that but still no folders to select

I cannot reproduce this in any way. If it is working and then not working that is quite odd. It might be a file/folder permission issue. https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-fix-file-and-folder-permissions-error-in-wordpress/

I would need full admin and FTP access to your site to investigate why FTPing images isn’t working for you.

Is browser uploading working for you?

    Thanks for the reply.

OK, so looking at it it seems (at the moment!) to work online but is not good offline on my local. I use Freewheel for my local. I guess I shall have to develop it online.

    It’s not a permissions issue.

One thing though; is it possible to store the photos on a different server?

I still have it working ok online so it just can’t like local or freewheel.

However, one thing it is NOT doing is deleting the ftp folder, which I have checked in settings. This means that I have duplicate photos and wasting precious storage space.

Are you permanently deleting the galleries? Folders only get deleted when a gallery is permanently deleted.

Oh, thanks for explaining. That’s disappointing. I thought it meant that once images were copied to another folder and processed it would delete the originals.

I have been deleting the original folders manually. With many thousands of photos space is tight and there is just not enough room on the server to have all the photos duplicated!

A scenario is if you create a gallery from a folder but maybe you forgot a couple of images and need to recreate it. We don’t want those images being deleted immediately upon a gallery being created for this reason. Once it is no longer needed then deleting the original images is fine.

The last option is to not use FTP and only rely on the browser upload – it is essentially the same amount of processing time between the two. Originally built Sunshine with only FTP and improved it to do the browser uploading but left FTP for the few people who still wanted it.
