Support » Plugin: WooCommerce » Can not import products with links in description

  • When importing 1500 products about 1% will throw an error that says “Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.” After several hours of trouble shooting I have narrowed this down to products with links in the description. These descriptions however were EXPORTED with these links and NOW I can’t import them after making my changes.

NOTHING should be checking ANY html on import. This level of error checking is NOT NEEDED!

The more frustrating thing is a couple of months ago I loaded ALL of this data with the SAME LINKS with out any trouble.

Again… NOTHING should be checking ANY html on import. This level of error checking is NOT NEEDED!

    Hi there,
Could you please confirm which CSV import method or plugin you are using?

Are there any specific errors in your logs?
You can view the logs by going to **WooCommerce ➔ Status ➔ Logs** and using the drop down to select the log that refers to **Import** or **Fatal Error** with the appropriate time stamp and click the View button..

With 1500 products this might be a timeout issue as well so please could you please send me a copy of your site’s System Status?
You can find it via WooCommerce > Status.
Select Get system report and then Copy for support.

Once you’ve done that, you can paste it here.

I did say that “1% (estimate) will throw an error that says “Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.” After several hours of trouble shooting I have narrowed this down to products with links in the description.” This means I narrowed this down to just a couple of products. Timeouts should not be an issue.

Yes the logs show some timeouts because I did originally throw the whole 1500 at it before breaking it in to 3 500s. 2 of the 500s worked and the last I had to whittle down to about 10 products.

For what I’m doing now I don’t need to mess with the descriptions so I can leave them out of the import BUT at some point I need to fix 1500 descriptions with BAD HTML. THEN I need to be able to import LINKS.

Can you give us an example of a description that is causing the issue please?
I’d like to test this out on a staging site.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

I can if I can send it you privately.
