Support » Localhost Installs » Can not get to wp-admin on my MAMP installation

  • Resolved crowner

    Hello everyone!
I AM new to WP, have designed a site with some extensive help at
Transferred the site from my server to a local MAMP server by transferring the MySQL database and the wp-content folder.
The localhost:8888 works great, shows the site perfectly and all is working except when I try to enter localhost:8888/wp-admin it takes me to a page that says:
    No Update Required

Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!
and when I hit Continue it takes me to my live page on my remote server.
Any ideas what is going on here? How can I get to my local dashboard?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Try this:

    – using phpMyAdmin, accessible from the MAMP Start Page, make sure the site url and home fields in the wp-options table in your WP database are set to http://localhost:8888

    – that should get you into the dashboard so you can install and run this plugin to update the links in you WP site:

    – I also run this script as it updates serialized strings that the above plugin does not:

Be sure to carefully follow the instructions with both.

Once that is done, go to your permalinks and just re-save.

Thank you 2ninerniner2, that worked perfectly, there was no home field in the database, but once I changed the site URL everything fell into place.
    Thanks again !

there was no home field in the database,

Yep, it’s there … on the next page of the fields list in the wp-options table 🙂

Hi there, I’m having the same prolem, however Im simply trying to access my dashboard. My page is displaying correctly however I don’t know how to get to my dashboard. I’ve follow the instructions above, both fields in the w-p options table are correct but the dashboard does not appear, just the website. (locally hosted)

oh found the answer to my problem on one of the related threads. cheers people.
