• I can not update the plugins/themes/wp through the updates section in the admin panel. When I want to update I have to enter the Connection Information, and after I enter the proceed button nothing happens. The page keeps loading but nothing is updated.
A update via FTP is running normal.

  • Have you verified your FTP login details with your hosts?

    Yes I did.
When these are not correct I receive a message that Username/Password is incorrect.

Then I can only assume that it is a server configuration issue and that the server is not allowing WP access via FTP.

I have a VPS and some control on my server. How can I make WP have access via FTP?

What “flavor” of server are you running? Are you logging ftp access?

    I’m currently running Apache 2.2.
I’ve checked my log files and when I want to update there is a message:
“ALERT – script tried to increase memory_limit to 268435456 bytes which is above the allowed value”
    file: htdocs/wp-admin/admin.php

Could this be a memory issue?

Yes – that could be an issue. Try increasing the memory allocated to PHP.

The memory_limit setting was/is 128 M, that should be more than ok isn’t it?

It should be on most sites but you could try pushing it up to 256M and see if that helps.

Ok, I have changed this and did the update again. The ALERT didn’t show up in my log files anymore but the browser is still waiting for over 10 min now…
I have this installation running now for a few weeks now and it’s my first update. How long does it usually takes to have an update done.

    Less than a minute usually.

Ok, it took much more than 1 minute, but it worked.
    Thanks for your help!

Sorry but I thought that this would do it, but it did not.
For some reason the update message disappeared, but the Dashboard says that I’m still running WP 3.3.1. WP has not been a updated at all. It seems like WP can not access to my server through FTP. Any ideas?

I’m still can not update from my dashboard and with debug enabled I get this error message:

WARNING: wp-admin/includes/file.php:871 – fopen(/var/www/htdocs/wp-content/temp-write-test-1336382360): failed to open stream: Permission denied

    what does this mean?
