• I cannot edit the sidebars. The Widget page says there are no sidebars to edit on the current page. If I navigate to the page with the sidebar I wish to edit and then click the WP Customize tool as the widget suggests, I’m back to the Widget page claiming no sidebars to edit…just an endless loop with no hope.

Navigating to Pages/all pages, then clicking the title of the sidebar in the column provided, there is no way to edit from there — just how to choose a different sidebar for that page.

Thanks for your help and guidance.

    Hi @abahmer,

You can edit the sidebar content by going to Appearance → Widgets in your admin panel. You should see the new sidebar there.

When you go to Pages → All Pages and click the title of the sidebar, that let’s you edit the sidebar title as well as mass assign it to additional pages.

I haven’t done any testing with the customizer, but since the custom sidebar is only output on the frontend if it has widgets, it may not show in the customizer. Widget support in the customizer was added well after this plugin was built, so that’s something we may need to look into for a future release.

    Thanks,
    Brady

Brady, thank you for your reply.

When I visit Appearance → Widgets, I see the list of widgets and a few pages to which they have been assigned. If I click one of the widget titles, I see that I can assign this widget to several page choices or cancel. If I click one of the pages, I can see which widgets are attached to it. Clicking the widget here informs me, “There are no options for this widget” and I can delete or close. There is nothing obvious here that allows me to edit the content of the widget itself.

When I visit Pages → All Pages and click a sidebar title from the list of pages, I see that I can change the title and pick which pages this sidebar appears on. There is nothing obvious here that allows me to edit the content of the sidebar itself.

Although I did not create the widget I’m trying to edit, I assume that it is a “text” type widget. It has a title and a description.

    What am I missing?

So first off, on the Appearance → Widgets screen, what you’re seeing are what WordPress calls “sidebars” rather than “pages.”

Almost all widgets have some settings you can change. At the very least you can usually edit the title of the widget, so only a rare few should show that “There are no options for this widget” message. A “Text” widget should let you enter a title and some text, which will appear in your sidebar.

All of that is native to WordPress, so you should try getting widgets working with your theme before using Simple Page Sidebars. It sounds like you’ve got the basics down, so you need to make sure your theme supports sidebars on pages first.

Once you’re comfortable with the way widgets work and confirmed that your theme supports them, Simple Page Sidebars will let you replace the sidebar on a specific page so that you can create unique sidebars for pages instead of using a generic sidebar across your entire site.

Let me know if that doesn’t help clear anything up.

Ah, I think I see more clearly now. I believe you are saying that Simple Page Sidebars helps one manipulate any of the widgets so there are more options for using/including them on the pages as sidebars for a site. In that, I think SPS is working just fine! Here’s a page from our site that uses this plugin: http://wyclass.org/classes/

It looks like I need to search for help in editing the sidebar/widgets themselves. Thanks!
