    Hi
I’m wondering if Nextgen can provide what I need for my website.
Having played around with it for a couple of days I’m not so sure.

I’m currently using WP Photo Album Plus & Weaver 2 theme on this site to display a large number of photos with long descriptions: http://www.gamlingayphotos.co.uk/school-groups-1921-1940/ (check out the 2nd & 3rd photos).
As you’ll notice the Lightbox function doesn’t work as it should due a recent update to the theme Weaver 2 which clashes with WP Photo Album Plus that I’m using.
    My questions are as follows:
Can Nextgen support such long descriptions and if so is it possible to have them show just on the photo and not on the thumbnail?
Do I really have to upload all (500+) photos again or can Nextgen access them from WP Media?

Hi David! I do think that NextGEN may a good fit for your galleries. One of the available lightbox effects should be able to support those long captions.

For uploading, if you know the exact location on your server for your images, you can import all of the images that are already uploaded on the server. Otherwise you can upload all 500images at once through a batch upload or as a .zip. 🙂

Let me know if you have any other questions! I am going to mark this thread as resolved (you can still post additional questions here if you’d like). Let me know if this did indeed answer your questions.

    Best,

    Thanks for the quick reply.
Only one other thing: Can I hide the long captions on thumbnails but show them on just photos?

@davidallen23 – Absolutely, the captions shouldn’t appear on the thumbnails, only within the lightbox. 🙂

Ah, so where do you add the caption?

So if I go to ‘manage album’ and add a caption in the top title part of an image then the caption becomes the file name which luckily accepts HTML for formatting. All I need to do now is move the caption from above the image to below.

    Hi David,

To add captions to images, go to Gallery >> Manage Gallery and select your gallery to edit. Down below the next page will be a list of your images where you can add a Title & Description for each image that will appear as your caption. The top part of the page will be where you can edit the Title & Description for the gallery that will show up in your album.

    Hope that helps! 🙂
