Can mySQL database control multiplied blogs on server (not web hosting)?

  • I am newbie with everything but I somewhat managed to put blog together. Now I have question about mySQL database on server. I wonder if it is possible to control multiplied blogs/sites with one database? I do not know how it works, because if I set one database with one table, every field will be used for one blog/site, but with many blogs, every field will be “repeated” on every blog. so how s it possible to do many blogs/sites with just one database? I thought about using different tables for different blogs/sites – not too sure how it works.

    will appreciate any help.

  • you can use specific table prefixes per blog so that the blogs know which tables are theirs.

    Look into your wp-config.php file.
There is a line for the table prefix, e.g. wp_
For consecutive installs in the same DB you just have to change the prefix
    wp1_
    wp2_
    wp3_
    etc.
And every blog requires the upload of the WP files in their own directory.
But you can always go to the Codex and find what you need: Installing_Multiple_Blogs#Single_Database

thanks everyone. i got it already before i saw your replies
