I am the entrepreneur behind the development of a new website that needs a solid CMS. The CMS will be used to collect various sources/authors, archive our old content (not that extensive), personalize publications. The website has a limited e-commerce section (can purchase subscriptions), mostly publishes articles and images and has message boards and chat rooms etc. Obviously all that stuff that has been done before. My question is that I am about to hire a web developer, and a few have “proprietary” CMS and other developers say they can develop the whole website with wordpress. In your opinion, (because clearly I am NOT expert at this despite having read several books!) can I accomplish what I need to with wordpress and forego a proprietary CMS?

I’m not an expert, but I think WordPress is a good choice. It can be tweaked in thousands different ways to meet your needs. I use WordPress when I develop websites to my few customers, and they are all happy.

It’s like a swiss army knife. And few things beats free if you don’t have a skyscraper filled with money.

    Good luck!
