Can I use ecommerce plugins with an existing theme?

    I’ve inherited a WordPress site and have been asked to add a basic shop.

    I don’t want to change the site’s theme.

    My question is: is this possible to add an e-commerce plugin to a site with an existing theme?

    And if so any recommendations?

    People do this all the time with WooCommerce (a plugin by WooThemes)
