• Using WAMP & Windows 8.1 I have a local instal of the latest WordPress that I’ve been using for some time to build my blog and develop my theme.

Today I decided to use the MultiSite features (sub-domains) and I have no idea if I can upgrade my current install to a Super Admin or not?

Does MultiSite need to be set-up using a totally fresh install or can it be implemented on any current WordPress blog?

Not sure if this is relevant or not but I didn’t change the wp_ prefix when I originally installed my blog. does that matter?

Finally, does anyone know of any good tutorials for setting up a sub-domain multisite install using WAMP server?

  • You should be able to set up a network (multi-site) installation there. It shouldn’t do anything to the existing site apart from set it as the “default” site. Of course, take a complete backup of the site and the database before you make any changes, just in case something does go wrong.

As far as setting up subdomains, you’ll need the MU Domain Mapping plugin.
