Support » Fixing WordPress » Can I Turn My Banner into an Image?

  • My site has an olive/gray-colored banner at the top of the screen. With some themes I’ve used in the past, I was able to replace the background image/border image by right clicking on the page and selecting “View Background” image. I could then identify the location of that image as well as the pixel dimensions so I could easily replace it with an image of my choice.

It doesn’t appear to be so easy with this Silveray theme.

    My questions:
    1. Is it possible to replace the big olive/gray-colored banner with an image?
    2. If it’s possible, how would I go about doing that?
    3. How would I know the ideal pixel dimensions the replacing image would need to be to show up properly on the screen?

  • Hi govpatel.

I believe I made the change successfully, but it’s still not going to the homepage when I click on the banner from my site.

Did I make a mistake somewhere?

Here’s what that section of the header.php looks like now.

I contacted support at WordPress, and they said that with the way my theme is coded, the header image is not added via an <img> tag, which would allow you to simply add an tag around the image pointing to the homepage.

In this case the header image is set as a background image for my header div using CSS, so I’d need to restructure the header to use an <img> instead of a background image first.

They said that this involves editing my CSS file first to remove the background image, and then adding and positioning the image file within my header.php file using an <img> tag with the tag around it to point to my homepage.

Do you guys agree with this, and if so, would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction of getting this accomplished?
