Hello. My site already has a valid SSL certificate and is fully migrated to HTTPS. Somehow though, I recently discovered that your plugin had been installed and activated. I should perhaps note that at the top of my admin pages, there is a message from your plugin, with a blue button reading, “Go ahead, activate SSL!” screenshot

Neither myself nor the other person with admin access seem to recall installing the plugin. I would like to safely deactivate and remove your plugin. But of course, the deactivate link next to your plugin has the text, “Deactivate (revert to http)” which concerns me (screenshot). I of course do not want to revert to http. Will clicking this link revert my site to http? If so, how can I properly deactivate and remove your plugin, without altering my current http settings.

Just to be clear, my site was already fully migrated to http before installing your plugin.

    Thanks.

You can use the option in settings/ssl/settings “deactivate, but keep https”. For more information see the article on the website:

Alternatively, you can also just delete the plugin using FTP.

OK thanks for that. But just to be clear, if I have a site that has already been fully migrated to HTTPS, then install/activate your plugin, then immediately try to deactivate/uninstall plugin, your plugin will revert the site to HTTP, unless I take extra steps (or delete the plugin via FTP)?

No extra steps are needed, just use the “deactivate but keep https” button, or remove/rename the plugin folder through FTP.

The default deactivate plugin link in the wordpress plugins overview will indeed revert the site to http.

OK I really appreciate your help. I will attempt to remove the plugin via FTP.

Maybe these aren’t ‘extra steps,’ but they are certainly quite different from the standard steps required to deactivate a plugin.

You’ve hijacked the default ‘deactivate’ link with a link that will certainly cause major issues on my site. Just to give some constructive feedback, this has added a lot of extra time to what is typically a simple task. I’ve had to reach out to support to figure out how to remove the plugin without causing great harm to my site. To be honest, it’s a little scary that your plugin will revert changes that it didn’t even make. Maybe keep the ‘Deactivate’ link as-is, but when clicked, ask the user if they want to keep the HTTPS settings as-is, or revert to HTTP? Better would be if that prompt occurred only if your plugin actually made any changes. I’m sure there are other factors involved in this behavior that I am not considering. But this is my honest feedback as an end user.

    Thanks.
