• Question: Is it possible to create a post using an old, previously used “Plain” post number?

Background: We were using a 404-to-start plugin which referred people using bad/old/removed URLs to the homepage of our site, which is now many years’ old.

Recently, Google started policing “too many” 300-level redirects as being bad for mobile users. They warned us, alongside various threats, referring us to Google Console where we discovered we’d accumulated hundreds of bad URLs which Google was trying to index regularly. So we removed the plugin, reported that to Google, and the redirects were all gone. Hunky dory.

Unfortunately, we then got another warning for having a suddenly large number of 404 errors (from Google’s point of view, with all those bad redirected URLs from years’ past). We are trying to clear those up, especially since simply returning a 404-page isn’t good enough for Google. O.o? (There doesn’t seem to be a way to simply tell Google to “stop indexing this URL.”)

So, we were able to create/restore many old “fancy” permalinked posts using those slugs/URLs without too much trouble.

But, how can we recreate a post with previously used (later, deleted) “plain” permalinks? For example, http://website.com/?p=3058

Is this something we can do via PHPMyAdmin? A plugin? Voodoo magic?

Or is this a Bad Thing To Do because of reasons?

Thanks for any advice or counsel you can offer.
