Support » Theme: Minimer » Can I make thumbnails in the featured slider square?

    I love this theme and am currently heavily modifying it locally to suit my purpose. One of my modifications was removal of the post titles in featured slider so that only a thumbnail is showed. Can I make these thumbnails square somehow (like in Enspire, another lovely theme)? I would like to keep thumbnails in every other place just as they are, though.

    Hi, glad to hear 🙂

    In functions.php, edit the following with a child theme (line 71):

    add_image_size( 'minimer-medium', 520, 292, true );

    Change those dimensions to square there. This will also affect the related posts, as they use the same thumbnails.

    Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately, your suggestion didn’t work. I’m not exactly sure why, but the dimensions were completely unaffected by any change I made (even though web developer tools let me see that some change in code actually occured).

    However, your suggestion did actually help me solve the issue. While looking for the line you mentioned, I found the line:

    add_image_size( 'minimer-list', 320, 320, true );

    So I modified the content-featured.php file to load this line instead of the one you mentioned. This did the trick!

    Thanks a lot for your help and amazing themes. The theme I’m working on is a mix of Minimer with Enspire, a little bit of Readline, and some of my own ideas.

    Thanks for the update. That mix of 3 themes sounds cool, with your own touch. Share it when you are done 🙂

    As for that minimer-list size, I had actually forgotten to remove it from another theme. Smart to use it! I will keep it in the code for now.

    As a note, you need to run the regenerate thumbnails plugin once after changing image dimensions: https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

    @alxmedia

    Oh now I see… I’m not exactly familiar with wordpress plugins and didn’t expect to need them for regenerating thumbnails. Learning all the time! 🙂

    Sure, I will share the website once everything is done.
