    I would like to choose which pages have passwords. Also, can I make it so you must login every time you leave the page and come back? The standard WP feature lets you make password-protected pages, but you can access them after logging in successfully one time.

  • Hey there wpforum,

    Hope you’re well today!

    Password protecting posts/pages is not available in Membership 2 plugin. If you’re already using regular WP password protect and the only issue is forcing users to login each time you can try the solution from the following link which allows you to set session time limit for that.

    http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/149313/set-session-time-limit-for-password-protected-posts

    Hope this helps 🙂

    Cheers,

    Thank you. Bojan. I added the following to functions.php.

    This is an example of the private page you can access using the password – “private”. Let me know if you could successfully view it, click the link on the page, and if it forces you to login each to you visit.
    http://happynick.com/marketing/private/

    ///time out login so you must reenter it every time//
    add_action( ‘wp’, ‘post_pw_sess_expire’ );
    function post_pw_sess_expire() {
    if ( isset( $_COOKIE[‘wp-postpass_’ . COOKIEHASH] ) )
    // Setting a time of 0 in setcookie() forces the cookie to expire with the session
    setcookie(‘wp-postpass_’ . COOKIEHASH, $_COOKIE[‘wp-postpass_’ . COOKIEHASH], time() + 1 * 5, COOKIEPATH);
    }

    Hey again wpforum,

    I’ve tested your link and everything seems to be working fine, I’m forced to use the password each time I visit the link, see video http://screencast.com/t/7gTXbjEtq.

    Best regards,
    Bojan

    Thank you again Bojan for your help. I’ve never seen a video recording of someone using/testing my site, so this is really great. I need to use https://www.techsmith.com/jing.html.

    Just to clarify, Membership 2 helps to control pages access within WP for different users, not set password as I was trying to do?

    Hey agian wpforum,

    Yes Jing is super awesome for screenshots, you can easily add text, arrows or highlight parts of the screenshot in couple of clicks, also you can do videos but sometimes if the videos are large they don’t always work very well (reason I used such a small window for recording).

    As for membership 2 yes, it controls access of which user can access which parts of your site based on membership level he is assigned to, so it allows you to protect, posts, pages, custom post types, parts of content and a lot more but it doesn’t have an option to password protect posts or pages.

    Best regards,
    Bojan

    In WP, do I need to go to Users > Add New (to add admin type) or does Membership 2 does this? Is there a video and step by step instructions for idiots like me to set this up? Once set up, then I can invite others to have access to specific pages/post to create and edit content, but not have access to the rest of my WP admin or content? Sorry to bother you so many times in one day. Just trying to understand and get this working.

    Hey again,

    You can find documentation for the plugin here http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/membership/. The documentation is for premium version but you should be able to find answers to your questions on how to setup the plugin.

    Basically how it works is you create membership levels (that can be paid or free). Your users can sign up for those memberships from the front end or you can assign those levels to specific users in Membership 2 -> Members in your admin.

    You setup protection rules per level (pages/posts etc what will be available for users that are assigned to that level) in your admin in Membership 2 -> Protection Rules.

    Hope this makes sense 🙂

    Best regards,
    Bojan
