• I’ve read that WordPress.com own my content which to me smacks of don’t do it.

Am I right in thinking that WordPress.org will let ME own my content?

And if so, how do I transfer from .com to .org?

    Any help please, thanks.

    Rob

WordPress.ORG doesn’t host your site, this place just provides you with the software to use on your own site. Your content should be your own to do what you want.

You may want to ask on WordPress.COM as they do support people moving their content from that site to a self-hosted installation using WordPress software.

    Hi,
If I’m not wrong, WordPress.COM let you transfer your website data, but if you want the guided way you have to pay $129(?).
In any case it’s not so hard to bring a website from .com to .org by yourself.
The basic steps are go to in the admin dashboard > Tools > Export and download all your data.
Then go in the .ORG dashboard Tools > Import > WordPress (click on “Install now”) > Run the importer and follow the steps.

Keep in mind that to be online with a .ORG website you need a hosting plan (if you don’t have your own server) and a domain.
Online there are a lot of easy-to-follow guides to switch between .COM and .ORG. In my opinion .ORG is light-years better so great choice, but de gustibus non disputandum est 😀 .

About the copyright: I don’t know if .COM has a particular policy, but the law says everything you create is covered by your own copyright, even if you don’t specify it.
The only ways they could own it, it’s if you signed a particular contract (you should find everything in their Terms and Conditions).

    Teo
