• I installed the latest update to Wordbooker and it has stopped working! It worked perfectly before with only an occasional hiccup.

I first noticed this when a post I did earlier today did not appear on my FB Wall. I checked my Wordbooker Settings and found that it no longer recognized my FB account. So I clicked on the link to re-establish and was prompted to grant Wordbooker access to my friends list. I did.

Subsequently, I changed the settings to default publish Pages and Posts. (I can no longer find the date window that automatically posted updates to existing pages outside of a certain time period – I loved that feature and wish we could have it back).

I have the setting “Include a Facebook Like button” but no Like button appears. I believe that Wordbooker is active, though, as the Share button works.

But it is still not publishing to FB. The log (set on major events only) shows Calling Wordbooker publishing function, and then Commence publish, but there is nothing after that (should their be a “success” listing? It’s been so long since I’ve looked at my Wordbooker settings I can’t recall).

I turned on show Everything, and I can see a bunch of post options processing, then getting permissions needed/additional permissions required (0).

Any advice would be very much appreciated! I don’t want to switch to a different plug-in, but if I can’t get this to work, I’m going to have to.

    Thanks!

  • Me too. I installed this, posted a blog post, and nothing. I turned everything on and it posted, but no image where before it always pulled up my photo from the post. Now just a stupid little folder icon. It’s a photo blog, not much point if it doesn’t show the photo on the FB post.

You can’t have the old Wordbooker back because Facebook obsoleted the libraries it used – which obsoleted all its facebook related calls.

The GRAPH API (which Wordbooker now uses) only supports 1 single image per post – there is a work round but it means changing a block of code and given the stupidly short deadlines I was working to I didn’t even attempt to change it.

Lovelure – can you upgrade to 2.0.1 which fixes a few bugs. If that doesn’t fix it then put diagnostic logging up to its max level and get a trace and post it over on the wordbooker support forums:

    http://wordbooker.tty.org.uk/forums/

I updated and it wiped all my settings. Why can’t the settings be updated too? So dumb.

Now i can’t seem to get wordbooker to work anymore. 😐

It is not dumb – Wordbooker V2 uses so many new and changed settings that migrating them over would not have been possible,

What do you mean it doesn’t work? What isn’t working? Are there any messages being displayed? What does the support information show?

My problem is that I used Wordbooker to post my blog excerpts to FB, but I use Flickr to host my photos and the photo that is in each blog post actually resides on Flickr. So now Wordbooker posts the words, but just puts a little file folder where the image used to be in the FB post. So it seems to have lost the ability to pull in the thumbnail from Flickr.

The GRAPH API only supports 1 image per post – that’s a FB imposed limitation, it also does funky things when there is no image in the post AND it also seems to take about 5 minutes after a post is published for the image to appear. I can get it to post up to 5 images by recoding a whole chunk of code to basically force an old REST API call through the GRAPH API – but its a bit messy.

I realized it wasnt working for me since i use live Writer, which is why i created the other topic.

Sorry for sayin its dumb πŸ™‚ Just too complicated for my simple mind.

Okay. I’ve figured out a few things. I upgraded to 2.0.1 as suggested and ran the full log and saw a listing that I don’t believe I saw before: “Publish Default is not Set, Giving up.”

I then saw the “Wordbrooker 2.0.1 NOT posting to Facebook Wall” thread on the support forums. There, I saw Stephen’s comment saying, “When a post is published to Facebook the “Publish this post” option is automatically unchecked to stop the post being posted again by accident when the post is edited.”

That, combined with damnidunno’s comment above “I realized it wasnt working for me since i use live Writer” explained the problem.

I reopened my post in WordPress, found the Publish this post option at the bottom, checked it, and voila – it appeared on my Facebook.

So, two questions remain. This is a painfully slow workaround. I never use WordPress to edit posts b/c it is slow and crashed nearly 50% of the time on me. You say the “Publish this post” option is unchecked to prevent dual posts when edited. There used to be a window (so only republish to FB if it was last published more than 14 days ago, or whenever. Is there any chance we can have this option back?

    If not, any suggestions?

Second, even though my Wordbooker setting for, “Include a FB Like button on blog” is checked, I have no Like button. This used to work before the upgrade, and the Share option works fine. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

-LL (still missing my old reliable Wordbooker 1.x)

OK, so the latest post pulled the photo in from flickr as a thumbnail, not sure what I did differently. However, as above, no like button anywhere to be seen, regardless of box checked, and no automatic posting to FB regardless of what is checked where. Seems like even though I set the preferences for automatically posting in the Wordbooker settings, it is never automatic and isn’t checked in the actual post. I use MarsEdit to write my posts and now I have to go into WordPress to edit every post and update with the post to FB. Twice the effort.

Lovelure – I’m loathed to put the publish window back again as it caused lots of problems, and the logic for working out old posts was a complete pain.

As for the like button not showing – have you checked all the various options about when it should appear? Also does it work if you turn it into like/send?

Without the publish window, I’m with squeakerfish – this is so much more time consuming. After publishing my post in Live Writer, I have to go find it in the WP dashboard, scroll the bottom and check the Wordbooker options and Update. It’s faster for me to browse to my new post, copy the link, and paste it on my Facebook wall.

It would actually be easier to publish all the extra updates (from Edit) and then go to my wall to delete the extras, but it won’t default to ALWAYS publish.

Do you think you’ll look into an alternative solution? If not, I might have to look for an alternative, as this no longer saves any time.

Re: the Like button – all five checkboxes are checked in my blog settings: include Like button, include on front page, Category Pages, Pages, posts. I have now tried both options on Combine Send with Like (though I’m not quite sure I understand what that means). Still no Like button.

    Suggestions? Thanks for the replies,
    -LL

lovelure – can you give me a URL to check, It might simply be down to a theme issue (if your theme does not have a call to the wp_footer function in it then fbxml rendered tags wont work).

I can look into adding the automatic republish window : its horrible logic and its messy but…..

Hi Steve, I just noticed that my last 3 posts using Windows Live Writer automatically showed up in Facebook without my having to open the post in WordPress, so whatever you did – thank you.

Oh! And as I was writing this, I just checked and see that the Like button is back and working again.

So, after all the bitching and moaning I’ve done here, I thought could at least do you the courtesy of checking back into this thread to say THANKS. Keep up the good work! πŸ™‚
