Can I have different dedicated servers for each of my subdomains?

  • Hi,

I have a multisite installation setup and I have used Networks+ to add new network. My set up looks like this:

    Main website: city1.domain.com

    Network+ 1: deals.city1.domain.com

    Network+ 2: connect.city1.domain.com

I’m concerned about traffic as I’m going to be using one of them as a social network (buddypress).

Is it possible to have i.e. connect.city1.domain.com to point to a dedicate server without messing up my multisite installation?

  • No, WordPress doesn’t work that one. One install, one server.

What if I separate the databases?

Will that allow me to have them in separate dedicated servers?

    No, just separate DBs.

You can’t have sepereate dedicated servers when you’re running a netowrk install for one very simple reason. There’s only one copy of the websites files, so you can’t break that up onto different servers. If you want different servers you must do seperate installs. Are your sub domains really getting enough hits to warrent their own dedicated servers??? Must be VERY busy sites.
