  • Hello!

I’m interested in a blog address that’s already “in use,” but has never been used and was created in 2006.

Is there any way, aside from hoping that the owner can be contacted?

The one I’m interested in is pressstart.wordpress

If the owner has renewed the name(s) and it is now in his possession, and he can’t be bought or persuaded, then it is his until the end of the renewal period. No-one can be forced to exercise his/her name.

If when you type the name into an address registrar the name comes up as unavailable, this is probably the case ( or possibly someone else has bought the name to squat on it for profit ).

To snipe for a name the owner wishes to retain at renewal time is regarded as disgusting and perhaps illegal in some circumstances. Besides which domains can be renewed for up to 10 years on advance ( although I imagine giant corporations subject to extortion and cyber-squatting for fun and profit probably have stronger guarantees ).

Basically, unless you can get him to sell/give it to you, you have no options ( unless you are a giant corporation ). No registrar will give you a name already owned, and it would be advisable never to choose a name that can be confused with any other in or out of use, if only for legal confusion reasons.

A very short, but on-point discussion over at
