can anyone suggest if/how I can empty the trash for my custom taxonomy?

I set up a custom taxonomy called ‘teams’ and I deleted a team, and then had to add it back. Seems easy enough, but I couldn’t, so instead of a team with the slug for this taxonomy called (for example) blah I had to call it blah-2. I’m guessing this is because it has gone into trash. Not a big problem, but a little annoying.

I’ll answer my own question. Maybe someone will find it usedful in the future. It seems my original though that this problem is to do with trash was incorrect – it appears to be something to do with permalinks. Once I went to the Settings > Permalinks page, and resaved my permalink setting, the permalinks were flushed and I was able to reuse the one which previously existed.
