  • WordPress can do lots of things with customization and plugins, but have you looked into a regular CMS like Drupal?

would it be really difficult to do with wordpress?

I don’t know, but it would probably be easier with an “out of the box” CMS. Joomla! is another open source CMS.

Joomla has a really high learning curve, IMHO, and Drupal isn’t that much better. Plus Drupal sometimes wigs out and changes permissions capriciously. I suggest CMS Made Simple along with a module called FEU (Front End Users). Users must register/login to view private content but they are allowed to upload their own files.

WordPress CAN do some of these things, and the day that it has a robust Private Login/Members only feature, that’s the day I’ll forego all other CMSs for WP. But we simply aren’t there yet. These plugins *might* help you on your way:

thanks for the prompt reply. I googled about this a few hours ago and what I need is what they call LMS (learning management system), so I was wondering if there is a LMS kind of plugin for wordpress.

You can do this and organize it much better in WordPress Multi-User. Each course or teacher can have their own blog/CMS/forum. New teacher or new course, just add in Site Admin.

No limits on what you can do with WordPress or WPMU as long as you know how to do it. I could say the same for Drupal, Joomla! or other application. Good luck.
