    Hello,

    I would like to ask if it is possible to map the metadata that a file has into the media library fields (Alternative text, Title, Caption, Description).

    Example:

    XMP WordPress

    Title -> Title Field
    Description -> Caption field
    Headline -> Description field

    Best Regards

    Thanks for your question. Extracting IPTC, EXIF and XMP metadata embedded in image files to populate WordPress standard fields (e.g. Title, Description), taxonomy terms and custom fields is a very common task that MLA supports. Here are two recent support topics that should give you an idea of what’s possible:

    Some basic question about use iptc-xmp-fields for wordpress

    Mapping xmp template data to existing fields

    You can find more information in the Settings/Media Library Assistant Documentation tab as well. Look for the “Field-level prefix values” and “IPTC & EXIF Processing Options” sections.

    I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have problems or further questions about the material in the earlier topics or the Documentation tab. If you need more specific guidance about particular XMP data in your image files, post a link to one or more examples and let me know the values you are looking for. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

    Thank you for your answer.

    That was very informative.

    Also another simple question but I can’t figure out much as I was searching the internet.

    What happens with the png files? If I upload a png and then download the file the XMP data are there, but nothing is populated inside the WordPress. Probably png files support Exif only?

    Thanks for your update with the positive feedback on my earlier suggestions.

    You asked “What happens with the png files?” Here’s an earlier topic along similar lines:

    IPTC Taxonomy term mapping PNG

    As I wrote there, I would love to get some PNG image files with XMP metadata embedded so I can look at adding support for them to MLA. Any examples you can share with me would be helpful. Thanks for your help!

    Hello,

    When I did the writing here I also tested some png files after I read the documentation and did the mapping. It worked for 2 PNG files I passed as intended.

    I will post a link with a png image here where you can download it and do some tests.

    As I said here is a PNG that you can test.

    Let me know about the results.

    Also to inform you that when I did the mapping, having in mind the jpg, I also show that it worked for the PNGs also.

    Thanks for both of your updates with the good news and the link to a test file. I downloaded the image and verified that MLA was able to extract the XMP metadata it contained. I am very happy to see the success and to have a test file for future use; thank you.
