In Jetpack–>Settings–>Traffic–>Site verification there is an option, “Verify site ownership with third party services” (screenshot). On my site it is enabled, but it seems none of the fields have values in them. Can I safely disable this option? I do not recall enabling this option.

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

That is a tool you can use to verify your site with Google’s Search console, Bing’s webmaster tools, with Pinterest or Yandex. Verification like that is not necessary for your site to be listed in those services, but it’s a way to tell that service “I own this site”, and allows you to get some more data about and control over how those services index your site.

If you verify your site in Google Search Console, for example, Google will send you alerts when it detect problems on the site that prevents them from indexing it properly, you can disavow poor-quality backlinks to your site, or inform Google if your site’s URL changes, making reindexing of the site at the new address go faster.

The common way to do this verification is by manually editing your site’s source code to add meta tags to your site’s HTML headers. This tool in Jetpack gives you an easier way to add those without having to modify any of your site’s files directly.

If you don’t want to make use of this tool, you can disable it.

OK thanks for that. It was informative. I will disable the tool for now, but keep it in mind for the future.

    We can consider this resolved.
