The reason I want to do this is when I publish a post, it automatically goes to RSS, and can’t be removed. I use RSS to send out my mailing list using MailChimp.

Sometimes I screw up and publish something (instead of saving it) before it’s done.

    Thanks

  • Take a look at this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/edit-flow/

Thanks. Looks like I would not use 95% of this but if it works it works. Thanks again.

Yah, it was the easiest solution I could think of that would do what you needed. You might also look into using a custom cron job and/or modifying the wp-cron function: here is one article about modifying wp-cron. https://kinsta.com/knowledgebase/wordpress-cron-job/

Awesome. I will try. Thanks .

My pleasure. Once you have a solution you are happy with kindly tag this thread as resolved. Thank you.

Ok, I set up a Google calendar reminder a week from now. There is no way I would remember otherwise. 🙂

UPDATE: In case anyone reads this and is looking for a similar solution. I found this:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/publish-to-schedule/

It is only tested up to 4.7.2, but I think it will work. I can’t test it now because I don’t want a new post to go to my RSS feed. 🙂

I’ll update this post in the next few days (or week) with the results.

You can test on a staging server and maybe even local. Creating a cron is the easiest thing though.

I know what cron jobs are, however, how can I write a con job to not actually publish the post when I click on the publish button? I’m a bit confused?

this doesn’t seem like something crawling would do. Cron jobs are time-based.

I’ve never done what you are trying to do myself… although I’ve previously managed sites that do it and I believe they had set up a cron job that called a custom script that modified wp-cron.php.

I’ve been using the plugin I mentioned above for a week now and it works great. I emailed the author and he said it should work with the most current version of WordPress, even if it doesn’t say so in the plugin directory.

    FWIW, I’m running WordPress 4.9.8

    Thanks
