Support » Networking WordPress » Can access sub-domain but not network admin

  • Knightfire

Before getting into the problem I’m having, the most important part was that previously both the primary site and the secondary site (sub-domain site) were working perfectly. I was able to log into cpanel/ftp and without any difficulty. Once in wordpress, I was able to log into both the network admin and secondary site’s dashboard.

    The problem:

I contacted the company of the theme I’ve been working with because the images were not loading on my secondary site. They requested access to the admin url, user and password. I created a new user with admin privaleges, and gave them the password and the url

(I thought I checked last night that it worked, but now I’m not so sure)

They responded that they were unable to login. So when I tested the user name and password I gave them, I get a screen that says I do not have “privileges on this site”.

If I use the user name and the password that I would have used for the primary site, I am able to log into the dashboard of the secondary site.

When I am at the dashboard for the secondary site, I am unable to go to the dashboard of the primary site or select network admin. When I click on either the primary site dashboard or the network admin, I get a message:

    “Server not found”

“Firefox can’t find the server at”

(Not sure if the rest of this helps but I’ll put it in just in case)

I can successfully use the following command from a terminal

    but it fails with

    giving the error message:

    “ping: unknown host”

When I attempt to ftp into my server I have to do it from the secondary site now instead of the primary, using the same user name and password as I did when I went through the primary site.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for looking at this.

Did the registration for the primary domain expire?

No, the registration for the primary domain did not expire.

I’m not sure if this helps or not but I checked the domain name servers and this is what I got back:

When looking at the information provided in ‘Simple DNS ZONE Editor’ located in the cpanel there is only one A record provided for the primary site:

but for the secondary site there are two A records and two CNAME records.

    A records:

    localhost, mail

    CNAME records:

    ftp, webdisk.

Thank you for offering to help, I appreciate it.
