Support » Plugin: Contact Form 7 » Can a picture contain a virus?

  • Hi everyone,

I’ve been doing a bit of research and can’t seem to come to a final conclusion on this one.

Recently I installed Contact Form 7 to allow website users to submit their photos via the form. I have limited the file extensions to .jpg, .png, and .jpeg, as well as limiting the maximum image size to 500 KB.

Once a user attaches their photo with the required information and hits ‘send’ I will receive an email with the photo attached in my email inbox. I will do this to “screen” each photo and then upload it to my website to be featured.

My question is: what are the possibilities that I can become infected with this method? Does it seem like a low-risk solution? Or should I find another method?

    I don’t think it’s a high-risk solution as long as you stay with the jpg|png|jpeg & 500 KB restrictions.

Of course, you still need to be careful about other things such as other plugins and theme you use, though.
