Calendar Plugin Recommendations

I have become frustrated with not being able to easily customize some events in CalPress Events and, as a result, would like to try another calendar plugin. Two questions for those of you who have been in this situation:

1) What alternative calendar plugin(s) do you recommend?

2) I have entered a lot of events in CalPress and am not interested in recreating them should something go wrong. Is it possible to easily transfer the existing events to another plugin if I install one? Thanks for any responses!
