• As a result of being hacked I am considering a rebuild of my site. In thinking this through I wonder about how my domain name is configured. Currently, my domain name is attached to .ca. I understand that .com may be of greater benefit. I don’t know the answer to that. I have also heard that I should have both the .ca and .com versions. Opinions??

  • The difference is mainly for visitors and a little bit of a geographic boost. If you’re audience is based in Canada, and you’re marketing to a Canadian audience, then the .ca domain will be the best. If you’re going for a global market, the .com will be the best. Overall the difference is really not as big as you might think.

If you’re already using the .ca domain then I’d say stick with that because that’s what you have indexed and working for you now. You can always set up the .com to point to or redirect to your site anyway so anyone that stumbles across the other domain name that you have.

I agree 100% with what Michael said.
If you can have both, get both, but one is not better than the other.
