A couple of times after installing and enabling BPS on a client site, I logged in and saw that bulletproof mode had been turned off, and the plugin displayed a warning message that the site wasn’t protected. So I went through the steps to re-enable it.

Anyone know why this might happen? My client said he didn’t do any backup and restore on the site (he wouldn’t know how), so there’s no reason for the .htaccess files to have been overwritten. The log file doesn’t say anything about it. It just lists intrusion detections.

Last time this happened was last week. I just logged in now and bulletproof mode is still turned on, so I’m wondering if that was a fluke.

It could be a fluke or BPS root BulletProof Mode was accidentally deactivated (Default Mode was activated) by your client. Another possibility is that the root htaccess file is NOT locked and another plugin executed/processed the WordPress flush_rewrite_rules function (happens during saving settings in some plugins), which wiped out/deleted the BPS root .htaccess security code. To prevent that from happening in the future:

    1. Go to the htaccess Core >>> htaccess File Editor tab page.
    2. Click the Lock htaccess File button.
    3. Click the Turn On AutoLock button.

Important Note: If this particular host server does NOT allow locking the root .htaccess file then the website will crash. If the site does crash then you will need to use FTP or your Web Host Control Panel File Manager and delete the root htaccess file, log back into the site, click the Turn Off AutoLock button and then activate root folder BulletProof Mode again.
