The spam on my business blog is getting completely out of control, the quantity per day just seems to be accelerating.

If there a free spam delete add-on that can bulk delete by keyword? better yet, one that can *block* comments by keyword? (given that 99% of the spam is probably covered by less than 10 keywords/phrases)

What are you already using to combat spam?

    commentcleaner

it allows me to delete all unapproved comments in bulk - which is great - but I first have to go through and approve any genuine comments first, which is not so great. Especially as wordpress only lets me view comments at a time.

I'd suggest that you try running Akismet and http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cookies-for-comments/

Between the two, they should pretty much eliminate all spam comments for you. Unfortunately, I don't know of any bulk comment moderation plugins that would help with your current backlog.

I was hoping for a free alternative to akismet...

Well, you could just try running Cookies for Comments by itself and see if that's enough. There are other spam control plugins available - it's just that I happen to think that Akismet is the best available.

Thanks, I'll try that to stop new comments.

Is there any way to increase the number of comments I can view at one time? It would make scanning the existing comments much faster.

Increasing the number of comments displayed could also impact on your site. I've know the odd case where people have brought an entire site down by trying to view hundreds of comments at a time in the dashboard.

So how did they change the number?
