Thanks for your question and for posting a link to your screen shot; very helpful.

You can use the Media/Assistant screen’s Bulk Edit feature with a content template to make your task somewhat simpler. Pull down the Help menu in the upper right corner of that screen and click the “Bulk Actions” tab for more information.

For your application you can edit all the images for each boat as a group and code the first part of the new value manually. For example, to rename all the “inception” images:

    1. Navigate to the Media/Assistant admin screen.
    2. Check the box to the left of each “inception” image.
    3. Pull down the “Bulk Actions” control and select “Edit”.
    4. Click “Apply” to open the Bulk Edit Area.
    5. Find the “Title” text box in the right-hand column and enter template:inception-[+index+] in the text box.
    6. Click “Update” in the lower-right corner of the Bulk Edit area to apply your changes.
    7. When the operation is complete, click “Refresh” to see the results.

For each boat, just change the first part of the template value to the name you want. The [+index+] part of the template will apply the suffix you want, but you will have to do each boat separately to make the suffix start at “1”.

I hope the above suggestion gives you a start on a solution for your application. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any problems or further questions regarding the process I outlined. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

Wow, I can’t thank you enough that is brilliant. Can i do the same with alt tags and slugs?

    Many thanks

Thanks for your update with the encouraging words.

Regarding your question, you can update the ALT Text field using the same approach. In fact, if all you want to do is copy the Title value to the ALT Text field you can update all of your items in one pass using template:[+post_title+] in the ALT Text text box.

Updating the name/slug values is more complicated, as outlined in these earlier topics:

WC Fixit Tools: Replace ALL item Name/Slug

    Update “Name” Field?

As mentioned in those topics, I did not add name/slug to the Bulk Edit area. However, you can define an IPTC/EXIF mapping rule to accomplish your goal, as described in this topic:

Bulk Edit: Title, Alt Tag, descripion and so on broken on &

If all you want to do is make your name/slug values conform to the new Title values, you can create a rule for “Name/Slug” and enter template:[+post_title+] in the “EXIF/Template Value” text box. The topic also outlines how to test your rule on one or a few items to verify that it does what you want.

I hope that gets your the results you want. Let me know if you have any problems or further questions regarding the techniques used in the earlier topics.
