It has nothing to do with this plugin or even with WordPress, it’s about your hosting, so ask your hosting provider how to do it, it’s just gzip compression on your Apache, it will not save any space on hosting.
Maybe this will explain it little bit more https://betterexplained.com/articles/how-to-optimize-your-site-with-gzip-compression/

Thank you for the information, I now have GZiP compression. Does WP SVG sanitize current SVG files already in the media library or only the new files that will be uploaded?

WordPress will use uploaded SVGs only in tag or maybe as CSS background-image, so there is no need to sanitize it.

But of course if you want to INLINE uploaded SVGs or use it in <embed>, <object> or other executables, then you have to make sure that it doesn’t contain some dangerous JS, but using it in this way requires advanced user (programmer) and these people are aware of XSS and other things and will provide their own security checks.

There are plugins that allow you to inline SVG and they also contain some sanitizations, so you can try Safe SVG or others if you need this, but mostly you don’t 😉
So if you want just upload SVG, see its thumbnail in media library and use it in classic WP ways as src in or as background image, then you don’t have to worry 😉
