Support » Fixing WordPress » Bulk Alt Tag Media

  • I’ve wanted this ability for SOOOO long and I still can’t find a plugin that will do it. I alt tag every photo on every post with a specific alt tag mean’t just for that article. I can selection groups of images to insert, but it won’t let me add an alt tag to them all at once. Seems like something many people would want and I keeping thinking THIS SHOULD WORK. But it doesn’t. So I have to alt tag up to 20 images by hand.

Is there any way to do what I’m wanting? Supposedly Media Library Assistant will do it but it’s not user friendly and appears to be only if you want all photos in your entire site to have the same tag.

Not that you need it but here’s a screen shot: http://oi66.tinypic.com/ae6xi0.jpg

    Appreciate any ideas!

  • Alt tags are “alternate text tags” and are used to give a description to an image for the blind using screen readers. There should NOT be a way to bulk add alt tags because that would be improper use of alt tags and give NEGATIVE SEO!

Good example of alt tag for logo.png alt=”company logo”

Alt tags are NOT for keywords or anything else! Just BAD PRACTICE!

This would be kind of a niche need as most images on most sites would not need the exact same alt text. And having that many images on the same page (assuming it’s on the same page) with the exact same alt text would drive screen reader users nuts having to hear the same announcement over and over for each image! Anyway I don’t have a solution for your problem, but I did run across this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/auto-image-attributes-from-filename-with-bulk-updater/. Perhaps it can help?

Another solution is to figure out how much time this process costs you and figure out how much you would be willing to pay a developer to write a custom plugin for you to do this…
