we are moving a website from one host to another (to Bluehost). The site is currently running without CMS, but we want it to be on Worpress. So I am currently rebuilding an entire site on Bluehost using temporary URL. Something like this:
Everything looks great so far but I am nervous about moment when I’ll have to switch name servers. I would appreciate if someone will check if my understanding of the process is right.
My questions are:
1. Once the site is rebuilt and just before switching name servers, I need to go to PHP MyAdmin and modify siteurl and home urls to actual site (it displays 22.214.171.124/~username/AddonDomainFolder right now). Is this correct?
2. I read page http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress and it has this passage:
If you had any kind of rewrites (permalinks) setup you must disable .htaccess and reconfigure permalinks when it goes live.
I don’t understand it. Does it apply to me? If yes, what do exactly I have to do. How do you disable .htaccess? My permalinks are set to post title + I am using .html on pages plugin because that’s how site URLs currently look like and we don’t want to change that. I also manually edit actual URL for each page, as the owner was typically using keywords as URLs.
Thanks any advice, warning, or links to resources will be greatly appreciated!
