we are moving a website from one host to another (to Bluehost). The site is currently running without CMS, but we want it to be on Worpress. So I am currently rebuilding an entire site on Bluehost using temporary URL. Something like this:

Everything looks great so far but I am nervous about moment when I’ll have to switch name servers. I would appreciate if someone will check if my understanding of the process is right.

    My questions are:

    1. Once the site is rebuilt and just before switching name servers, I need to go to PHP MyAdmin and modify siteurl and home urls to actual site (it displays right now). Is this correct?

    2. I read page and it has this passage:

If you had any kind of rewrites (permalinks) setup you must disable .htaccess and reconfigure permalinks when it goes live.

I don’t understand it. Does it apply to me? If yes, what do exactly I have to do. How do you disable .htaccess? My permalinks are set to post title + I am using .html on pages plugin because that’s how site URLs currently look like and we don’t want to change that. I also manually edit actual URL for each page, as the owner was typically using keywords as URLs.

Thanks any advice, warning, or links to resources will be greatly appreciated!

  • Okay, a lot of time passed and I will answer this myself 🙂

    1. yes, you have to change IP address to actual domain name in PHPMYAdmin twice (both WordPress address and Site URL)

    2. It only means when you are transferring WordPress site by downloading database backup and uploading to your new host, you need to sign in to your WP and save permalinks again (to be done before Step 1).

    That’s it!
