• I crashed my old site (Joomla) and now I want to build a WP site. The hosting subscription I have is only allowing me to use 250 MB. I don’t want to increase my plan.

Can I set up a WP site that stays under 250 MB?
I just need a home, about, contact en maybe a few pics on it.

Edit: Tips for tricks and themes are appreciated 😉

  • Hi styzoom,
Thank you so much for your interest on wordpress as it is a secure and easy CMS. The installation wordpress software size is about 62MB. And the Theme you may need also related plugins within that size. But you have to ensure that all images and the WordPress will not be more than your memory size.

So, the bottom line is you’ll be pretty limited in the number of images you can have on your site as images eat up a lot more space than code.

Thanks,I was advised smaller WP sites are usually 500 MB. So basically it is the pictures that eat up the most space?

Do you guys know which themes/plugins are small but still sufficient?

Any tricks to make pics small? Do I have to convert them to PNG?

The plugins you need depend on the functionality you want.

Compress your images *before* you upload them and upload them in a size that’s the maximum you want displayed.

A hosting plan that allows only 250MB is pretty crappy. Just saying.

Yeh I know it is sucky, I have another site at hostgator with a normal plan. I just want to keep this site up in the air, barely any traffic hence I don’t want to expand. Just need a minimalist site with some information.
