I recently updated to Elementor version 3.3.1 and it completely messed up my entire website. I’ve tried reverting back to the previous version, and I’m receiving the error “Download failed. Destination directory for file streaming does not exist or is not writable.”

What’s even worse, is I’ve tried using a backup to restore a previous version of the website and (I’m guessing because I recently switched hosting providers) it doesn’t seem to want to work for me. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

  • Hey, I’m sorry to hear that the update was so devastating.

This error occurs when Elementor tries to locate the plugin’s location but can’t find it, most likely due to the fact that it used the directory of the old site.

You can try to reinstall the plugin, then roll it back to the 3.3.0 version.

To prevent future cases like that, create a backup right before updating plugins, so you won’t lose any content if something breaks in your site. The more plugins you have the more important it is to do so.
