Support » Plugin: W3 Total Cache » Bug Report: Password reset generates 500 error if Page Caching is enabled

  • Tim Smith

    WordPress: 5.0.2–en_GB
    W3TC: 0.9.7

It’s the link emailed from the login page lost password form. The one below is for a temporary test subscriber account to illustrate the point.

If page caching is disabled it works normally.

When page caching is enabled the page generates a 500 Internal server error. WP_DEBUG is on (to a log file) but there’s nothing it that or in the server access log.

The page uses a wp-resetpass-{hash} cookie.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Curious, why are you caching the wp admin(?) login page? Typically, most people dont cache that page. I figure the issue is the use of a ‘nonce’ which is getting cached. Shame developers don’t use ajax more often knowing that most sites will sooner or later make use of caching software.

So i doubt its a bug in w3tc and actually short-sited software makers not taking into consideration the existence of caching tools.

    Reopening after holiday.

The normal wp-login.php page is not being cached (it’s excluded by the default setting Never cache the following pages: wp-.*\.php).

The request a new password page (on my-account/lost-password) says
“Page Caching using disk: enhanced (DONOTCACHEPAGE constant is defined)”
    but also has
    “Cache key:“,

and the wp-login.php with the reset password action is being says:
“Page Caching using disk: enhanced (Requested URI contains query)” but very little else now the link has expired.

Note that the setting “Cache URIs with query string variables” is off.

If you need any more information please ask.
