Support » Plugin: Wordfence Security - Firewall & Malware Scan » [BUG] Fatal error when visiting from blocked IP

  • Hello there,
I’m using Worfence for a long time and didn’t have any problems until now.
It looks like an update occured some days ago, making my error.log file spammed of these errors:

PHP Fatal error: Call to a member function get() on null in PATH/wp-includes/query.php on line 28, referer: WHATEVER LINK THEY VISIT
[:error] [pid 18983] [client BLOCKED_IP] PHP Fatal error: Unknown: Cannot use output buffering in output buffering display handlers in Unknown on line 0, referer: WHATEVER LINK THEY VISIT

I can tell it comes from Wordfence because only the blocked IPs (from advanced blocking, didn’t check for the normal blocking) are triggering this message. Also, and it may be related, the last WF scan failed. I canceled it but I still get a ton of those messages.
Please help me fix this As soon as possible.
EDIT: blocked myself to test, and the blocked users get a “Error couldn’t display the page HTTP 503”

  • Hi @atx,

We haven’t implemented any modifications related to advanced blocking lately and none of the changes we’ve done to the Firewall seems likely to be the cause of this problem.

The error is coming from WordPress’s function “get_query_var” and it turns out we aren’t using that function anywhere in our code.

So the error is most likely coming from another plugin that uses “get_query_var” incorrectly.

In order to gather more information on what’s happening I suggest you enable WP_DEBUG and check the generated log file

    Thank you @wfyann!
That’s right, a conflict came from the latest WP Super Cache update. Trying to fix it.
Just a quick unrelated question though, will it be soon possible to edit the advanced blocking page? I know you are working on it but I didn’t get any news for a long time and don’t want to open a new thread for this.

    Hi @atx,

    Thanks for the confirmation!

Regarding the possibility to customize the blocked page I’ll get an update from our development team and I’ll revert to you via the related topic you previously created.
