BuddyPress search

How do I get the buddypress search dropdown to appear, or even where get the search box to show up? In all my other buddypress themes there is a search box with dropdown that allows them to search members, groups, activity and other places, but I can find a search box apart from the search widget… am I missing something?

I have downloaded a search plugin which uses AJAX, I am trying to test that out, but don’t know where in the template I would place the code (as in which page file in the theme)This is the code:
