    Hi Everyone!
I installed the BuddyPress plugin and i wanted to follow the intallation procedure. This is what i read:

You will need to enable permalink support in your WordPress installation for BuddyPress pages to function correctly. You can set this up using the “Settings > Permalinks” menu in your WordPress admin area.

When i went back to the WordPress admin and clicked on permalink from setting,i came to this:

BuddyPress is almost ready. You must update your permalink structure

I clicked on the link but nothing happen.
So how do i enable permalink support?
    Thanks!

    Hi
I follow the above link and got well confused. It was covering a number of issues but I simply like to know how to enable permalink support so that i could get the BuddyPress working. Is there something i need to insert or type in the custom structure?
    Please advise and many thanks!

Again. READ the link. It tells you how to setup permalinks. Once your WP site has permalinks, BuddyPress will be happy 🙂

Go in, set your permalinks, hit save. If there’s an error at the bottom of the page, read it. It’s USUALLY that it can’t write to the file. If so, the link I gave you tells you how to fix it.

    Hi!
Sorry about that. Its NOT sorted yet. I sorted out something else.
So, am still awaiting for your assistance on the above matter.
    Thanks in advance.

What are you unable to do?

Did you read the link I have you? Yes, there’s a LOT of information, but you need to understand WHAT you are doing 🙂

So. WHAT did you do and WHAT do you see? Because the directions really are to set your permalinks, hit save, and have a beer. IF that fails, you need to tell us WHAT failed, or we can’t help you.

    Hi
I know this can get annoying especially if my request seems so basic to you. My first post explain my problem.

BuddyPress is almost ready. You must update your permalink structure

I like to know how to update the permalink structure so that i can get BuddyPress to work.

I am pretty sure some kind of codes need to be inserted in the custom structure. If so, what code.
Again, am only interested in getting BuddyPress to work.
If someone has set up BuddyPress he/she would have gone through the same procedure. I like to know how.
    Thanks again

I like to know how to update the permalink structure so that i can get BuddyPress to work.

    Read this: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks

    Go to this section: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Choosing_your_permalink_structure

It has screenshots. Pick your settings.

    Click Save.

    Have you done that?

If you HAVE what did you SEE? Did it say successful? DId it say it would not write to a file? You haven’t said you’ve DONE anything. So I’m gonna keep going back to the directions until you tell me WHERE in the directions you are getting lost.

    @Ipstene!
You are right, you are only repeating yourself. Isn’t anyone else who could step in and give some assistance? I am on the point of give up on the whole thing.

    Go to this section: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Choosing_your_permalink_structure

It has screenshots. Pick your settings.

Where are the screeshots? I read the whole content but could not find screen shots to chose upon.
There are 4 choices for the common setting, the first one is set for default.
I have already used the fifth option and had a custom code in it.
I have this code: /%postname%/ which is for a friendly URL.
If i have already used the fifth option for the friendly URL then where do i set up the permalink structure for the Buddypress?
I appreciate if someone else could step in and explain more in depth.
    Many thank!

    NOW we’re moving forward.

Congratulations, by choosing one of those, you have set PERMALINKS. Now. When you hit save on that, were there any messages at the bottom of your screen, telling you that it was unable to write to a file, or did it just say saved?

    Hi!
I got BuddyPress working but I dont like it at all. Have a look: http://www.weightlost4teens.com To start the BP header is 1250×125 px. I tried to increase the header height so that i could bring back my custom header image. I follow a link tutorial how to edit the header size. Heres the link:http://buddydress.com/2010/04/custom-header-tutorial-adding-an-image-and-changing-the-size/
So following the tutorial, i went to my cpanel of my hosting and having found the function.php i tried to look for header area just like the tutorial instruction. I must have spent about two hrs there. According to the tutorial i should find the header area to edit on line 149. That was not the case. So, painfully i look everywhere in the function.php and could not find the area where to edit the header height. I even got one of the tech support to help me for this. We could not find the designated area. I thought I could simply do this at default.css.
I went there and change the header size. I changed it to 255.
As you can see, the header is more than 125px in height. But when i went to APPEARANCE>HEADER to bring my custom header image, i was asked to crop to exactly 1250×125.
So, the editing in the php file is needed.
Can anyone tell me how, where and which php file to do the header height adjustment.
I am on the point of getting rid of Buddypress and get back to my previous theme.
    I appreciate your help.

    Hi
Just to tell you guys that the issue of adjusting the header height in BuddyPress has been resolved. The function.php file is not easy to find, but i found it. For the benefit of someone else in the same situation, this is where to find it.

    wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/functions.php

You also need to make change in the default.css and this how you find the file.

    wp-content/themes/buddypress-widget-themes/default.css

However, now i have another problem. Have a look at the site, http://www.weightlost4teens.com
You will see at the top right hand corner, the face of the two girls are covered by the search module. I like to move the whole thing from there to be in line with the navigation bar but to the left.
I know this is a position code but i am not sure where and in which folder to make this adjustment.
    I would appreciate you help.
    Many thanks!
